Origami Instructions

The instructional part of the origami project will be illustration board size (20x15inches). We plan on creating an accordion style, large, book of instructions so that it can stand on its own if you need it to. As for packaging the book, the origami fabric itself will be folded into an envelope, and the instructional book will be inside of this envelope.

Here are some of the instructions for the origami piece.

Hi guys -
This shot at instructions is a good first try. I think they're going to take a lot of thought-right now they're a bit confusing. Your figures are great, and i appreciate the little people you drew in and how you used color to make them fun. There are a few too many symbols, though, which are difficult to understand (the little curlicues between certain steps, asterisks next to instructions). Also the line the instructions follow is really confusing. There's no visual hierarchy that makes your eye jump to figure 1, first. I know doing it all left-to-right might make it boring looking...but you do have to take into account how people are oriented to read instructions and what their expectations are. Perhaps some compromise between a winding line and left-to-right would be best?

also, it's a kid-size tent, right? I think the instructions right now would be really difficult for kids to follow to make themselves, so keep that in mind. (unless you said adult help is a requirement - I can't remember).

Hey guys
I thought it would be interesting for you guys to find a way to instruct your users without another sheet wit the instructions. The instructions can be embedded into the actual fabric that the user will be folding. I'm not exactly sure how but perhaps corresponding symbols can be used so that people will know which sides join together? or maybe different colors? The instructions remind me a lot of the existing origami instructions. I also remember when I was younger trying to read the instructions and getting confused and always needed my moms help or something. I also think you guys should create scenarios such as what age group would be using there and where? and if adults would be around? this is all something to take under consideration

I love the little people in plan and the grass, etc! It gives it a sense of scale and playfulness. But I agree with other posters that the instructions as is are a bit confusing. This may be the opportunity to redraw them in a way that is clearer; hopefully you can use the scale to your advantage. This may be where the video of you two folding in white gloves comes in handy--a speeded up version can function as a kind of advertisement and double as an instructional/follow-along-with-me video when slowed down.

I'm glad you guys added the ppl it really helps it seem more interactive and also a bit sense of scale. I do agree that it needs to be slighly more clear and the people more adjustments to the illustrations like the arms are too close looking to the lines and symbols but its a really good next step guys!
